Tour day 24

Today started around 66 degrees and some clouds. A bit warm for me but could be worse. Legs felt dead and I found out the reason why. My back wheel was out of true.  Meaning it was not perfect in line, the rim that is. Riding my back brake since I broke my spoke over a week ago.  Glad I checked everything on my bike that morning. Peyton temporarily fixed the issue and will be taken care of in Champaign Illinois on the 11th. Should be a beast on Wednesday since we have tomorrow off.  Needed. More big miles coming up. Here's the weather and itinerary.

It started out well. Some wind then we ran into construction. The Asphalt road was being worked on. 7 miles it was shared with me. Had no idea it was that long. They were taking the surface off and it was all groves. If you have ever driven over that you know what it feels like. Imagine on a bike. Horrible. Suprised bike didn't fall apart. Or me due to the shaking.

Made it through that and had one sag today. Felt great to be on smooth pavement. Some of the beautiful scenery. It's a changing. More crops and greenery.  No desert. Farm equipment as you can see. Took off to Abilene Kansas for lunch.

Here are some pics of the ride there.  Rolling hills. Very pleasant ride especially since we had a slight tailwind.

We arrived in Abilene for a great lunch at the Hitching Post in old town Abilene. Dinner was on us that evening in Junction City. Lots of history in this town as you can see. Old west buildings, Eisenhower memorial with his library, his boyhood home, library, museum, and to top it off the Greyhound hall of fame.

It was also a day of passing numerous cemeteries out in the countryside.  So peaceful.

60 miles down and 27 miles to go. Wind was kinda in our face or a crosswind. Tempature was increasingly getting hotter with humidity. Haven't had much of that. Not to terrible but an inconvenience. Lots of hills coming into town. Some pics of that part of ride.

24 days down. 21 riding days. 5 days in Kansas with one more to go. Kansas that is. Getting warmer and humid which I not a fan of. Glad we did not get into to rain. Called for that. Rest day to wash cloths including our bikes. Oil the chain also to be ready to bike to Topeka Kansas. Capital of Kansas and our halfway point of 1695 miles. Going by fast. Check out the ride on relive.

Thanks for following. Have Tuesday off as a rest day so Wednesday I will post again.  I am fortunate to be able to do this and the group of people doing this is incredible. They make it.
